It was an ugly day in his mind. The kind of day made for sitting around and crying just for the awfulness of the day. He was in a wonderful place but was having one hell of an awful day. The last thing he said to her was "clean up your shoes they look like shit".
She cried and ran away to catch the large yellow bus. The yellow cage filled with screaming animals bouncing about as though something was violently shaking it about besides the bumpy road and ignorant driver. The speed of the bus blew his mind. How could something ever be safe enough for her. How could he stop seeing images of everything going wrong. He placed his hand on the cold painted metal in front of him. The car was red. Red like the coat she was wearing, red like her hair, red like her small shoes, red like her stockings, red like her blood exposed to the oxygen that kept her living and kept him suffering. He couldn't stop from being horrible he wasn't able to hold back the anger. He wanted to be that perfect man the one that never screamed thats showed his love exactly how it should be shown. He wanted her to be free but he wasn't in control.
He lay his face on the cold hood.
"BBEEEEEEP!!!" screamed the horn of the car he was laying on.
He jumped to his feet looking around quickly. The loud noise left him in shock rather then his usual anger. Glaring into the car he saw a short man in a suit getting out. The man walked up to him and paused.
"Charles?" the man asked, "Charles Newton?"
"Chuck"
"Yeah alright thats fine" the man said, "you live here?" the man asked pointing to the small maroon ranch house the red car was parked in front of.
"Yeah"
"I'm gunna need you to come with me" the small man said the Chuck.
"What for?" said Chuck beginning to feel his usual anger building up.
The short man handed Chuck a piece of paper. Printed on the top of the paper in bold letters was "Massachusetts Department of Social Services".
Chuck looked up from the paper and down at the short man.
"I'm with the Child Protective Services" He explained softly "Rose will be fine, but you need to come with me.
He didn't feel angry for the first time in a long time, he felt empty.
She was finally safe.
